We headed over to Lambert Bridge after our forays to David Coffaro and Trentadue. One of the WC crew is a member of the LB winery. Thank the gods! That place is expensive to taste at $25 a head for the “signature” wines. There were six of us and we all had the fee waived. Yes!
That said, Lambert Bridge is everything that you’d want in a Dry Creek winery experience. The facility is stunningly beautiful, surrounded by charming gardens. The tasting room and cellar is housed in a magnificent though country-ish building. The place was bustling (we didn’t know until later that it was Sonoma Wine Weekend). All of the wines that we tried were simply magnificent!

LB staff was very friendly. Purely by chance, one of the tasting room personnel, “Andy,” went to college with one of the weirdcombos. Perhaps that helped improve our experience you jaded folks in computer-land will be thinking? I don’t think that it made any difference at all. The large group of thirty-something gay guys standing near us all looked very pleased with there visit to LB. This was also the case with the Midwesterners to my left and the several older couples milling about the room.
LB offers a wine club called Liquid Assets. I guess at these prices, you need to hope that the wine will increase in value with time, just like the stock market! I was unfamiliar with their wines until going to this place, but I will look for them in the future. The reds started in the $40’s and went up after that. The price was a bit too much for my “recession budget” but as soon as I win the lottery, I’m ordering a case or two!
2008 Sauvignon Blanc, Bevill Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley: $28 This wine was so pale that it almost looked like a clear white. It smelled like peach. Tasted of peach, nectarine and pineapple with a mineral finish. We all thought that it was “very good.”
2007 Chardonnay, Sonoma County: $35 This one was very pale too. It smelled of oak. It tasted of pear with an earthy bitter finish. One of us found it “a little chalky.”

2007 Viognier, Sonoma County: $32 This was clear with a rich flowery perfume. It tasted of lemon with an acidic finish. We didn’t really like it (there’s an exception to every rule!) It was “very sour.”
2007 Zinfandel, Maple Vineyards, Dry Creek Valley: $50 This vineyard is dry farmed. The wine was a rich cherry red and smelled of caramel. It was “smooth” with notes of caramel and pepper on the long finish. It was well balanced. One of us said “I love this wine.” We all generally agreed with that.
2006 Petite Sirah, winery Ranch Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley: $45 This was a dark purple wine with caramel and toffee notes. Very good!
2006 Cabernet Franc, Sonoma County: $63 This medium red wine smelled of “alcohol” to at least three of us. It had a raspberry taste with a smooth long finish that was very agreeable.
2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma County: $90 This was a dark red with tobacco on the nose. It had medium body with an unexpectedly short finish. Just o.k.
